10 ways to ReFresh your website

 

Who remembers Facebook 13 years ago? Anybody? No? Just me? Ok.

Well, WAAY back when, Facebook was becoming the ‘cool Myspace’ and everyone could repost complete rubbish on anyone’s wall, visit your friend’s virtual fish tank and feed their fish and gift each other eggs that would hatch into random things. It was essentially a pointless place that you might look at maybe once a week. Facebook has come a long way since then. We now have Facebook groups that ultimately led to a Market Place to sell our unwanted crap, we have Pages to advertise and even run our businesses and we rely on it to keep up to date with what is happening within our communities. Instead of checking it once a week or logging to see if you had any notifications then logging out, we are spending hours a day on it because of videos, groups and FOMO (fear of missing out).

I know, I know, it’s a long-winded example but it shows that Facebook has been constantly updating, evolving and following trends to keep their audience on their site. And, you know what? It’s working.

What to do to keep your website lookin' Fresh

Brand Consistency

Is your branding consistent throughout your website?  Check it over, make sure all colours, fonts, logos etc are correct throughout. 

Update Services Pages

Keep your services pages up to date. Ensure you have a page dedicated to each particular service you provide. This gives your visitors a better user experience because they can read more in depth about every service.

Update Imagery

Update your imagery. Ensure you have clear and high resolution images on your website to keep it looking schmick. Be sure to have your latest and best work on the website. Consider hiring a professional commercial photographer and or videographer to show off your business. Make sure images are optimised for your website. Big files slow down websites.

Add a Blog

If you don’t yet have a blog, it’s time to add one. Blogs give you the opportunity to share your knowledge with your customers and clients and show that you are an expert in your field. As you start to share tips and knowledge you will start to build trust and rapport.

If you already have a blog, then it might be time to look at freshening up current blogs, adding to it with updated imagery, videos and downloadable content. Analyse which blogs are performing better and why, and discover what you can do to improve the blogs that aren’t performing.

Have a copywriter freshen up your copy

A good copywriter is worth their weight in gold. Seriously consider investing in a copywriter’s services and have them look over your current copy. They will be able to give it a boost and ensure that it’s still in your brand’s voice.

It may be what your website has been craving for it’s revamp.

Check what can be updated on your About Page. Consider putting up new images of yourself, your team and your business. Is the business’ mission and vision values still the same? Are you writing to attract your ideal customer/client?

Add an optin

NOW is a good time to start collecting emails with an optin form. Offer a freebie or a discount. Very rarely will people just hand over emails for a “Newsletter”. Give them something of worth for the exchange.

I recommend MailerLite as an email subscription service. It’s free for up to 1000 subscribers, easy to use, the interface is pretty and automation is free. Winning!

Testimonials

Updating your testimonials on your website is imperative in keeping your website up to date and give potential customers the piece of mind that you are still getting outstanding testimonials. Just think about when you check out a potential business that you want to use, you look for the more current testimonials to ensure the business is still providing a great service.

Competitors

When was the last time you did a wee bit of stalky-stalking of your competitors? If you haven’t, start now. Its the best way to work out what you can be more awesome at and have your customers coming back to your website. If they have a 500 word blog post similar to yours, go back, fix yours and write a 1,000 words and add a video! Plus the new content keeps Mr Google happy.

Website Maintenance

Make sure your website is backed up and optimised, core, theme and plugins updated and security check run done. All of these things are vital to your website’s overall health, to ensure it’s secure and running at its best.
